How to Merge PDF Files on iPhone Without an App

2 November 2026 · LetsConvertPDF team

To merge PDF files on an iPhone without an app, open Merge PDF in Safari, tap Select Files, choose your PDFs from the Files app, put them in order, and tap Merge PDF. The combined PDF downloads to your iPhone, ready to share or attach.

The merging happens inside Safari on your phone. Your documents are not sent to a server, so it is safe to use for things like bank statements, ID scans or signed forms.

Steps

  1. Open Safari and go to Merge PDF.
  2. Tap Select Files. If Safari offers a menu, choose Choose File to open the Files app.
  3. Tap Select in the top corner, tick every PDF you want to combine, and tap Open.
  4. Check the order of the list. Use the up and down arrows next to each file to move it. Tap Add more if you forgot one.
  5. Tap the blue Merge PDF button and wait a moment.
  6. Tap Download PDF. Safari saves it in the Downloads folder of the Files app, and you can share it straight from there.

Merging photos or screenshots

The merge tool combines PDF files only. If you have photos of documents or screenshots, turn them into a PDF first with Image to PDF. You can pick several pictures at once from your photo library, and each one becomes a page. Then merge that PDF with the others.

If your pages are scans and you want to search or copy the text afterwards, run the merged file through OCR PDF.

Fixing the page order after merging

The files are joined in the order shown in the list, and every page inside each file keeps its original order. If a single page ends up in the wrong place, open Organize Pages and type the new order, for example 1,3,2,4. You can leave a page number out of the list to delete that page.

Sending one file to an application form

Job portals, visa sites and university forms often ask for a single PDF, such as a CV with certificates, or a form with your ID attached. Merging is the quick way to get there: put the most important document first, then the supporting ones in the order the form lists them.

Upload forms also tend to have a size limit. If the merged file is too large, run it through Compress PDF before you upload it. Our guide on compressing a PDF for email explains which level to pick.

Keep it on your Home Screen

If you merge files often, add the site to your Home Screen. In Safari, tap the share button and choose Add to Home Screen. It then opens like an app, without an app store download, and the on-device tools keep working even when you're offline.

Questions

Does this work on iPad too?

Yes. The steps are the same on iPad, and the bigger screen makes the order list easier to check. It also works in Chrome on Android.

Is there a limit on how many PDFs I can merge?

There is no fixed limit. It depends on how much memory your device has. Everyday documents of a few dozen pages each usually merge in a few seconds.

Will the merged PDF lose quality?

No. Pages are copied across as they are, so text and images look exactly like the originals.

Is it free?

Yes. There is no watermark and no signup needed. Guests get one free use per tool each day, and a free account gets three.
